Ministers De Valera and Davoren to jointly launch Parish Plan

On next Monday the 5th February, the Crusheen and Ballinruan Development Plan will be jointly launched at Crusheen Community Centre by Ministers Sile De Valera and Noel Davoren.

The plan has taken the local community over three years to complete in collaboration with the Clare LEADER programme and Clare Co Council.

The plan is a vision for the future of the community as envisioned by the members of the community. Already one of the aspirations envisioned is in the process of being implemented. An environmental audit of the parish is being undertaken by the Department of Agriculture in University College Dublin under the guidance of Dr John Feehan. The fieldwork will commence on the 20th of April when seventeen students under the guidance of Dr Feehan will visit the parish for a week.

Dr Feehan spoke of the audit providing the local community with
....."a cartographic digital data base for the Environmental heritage of the
parish - looking at all aspects of environmental heritage in the most user
friendly, interesting, web user method. It is not a once off thing"
They set it up – do the ground work for it - the community update it, revise it and get to keep it. It’s a model . It will be a headliner.

Attending the launch on Monday will be Public Representatives, local councillors and representatives from community groups in North and East Clare as well as representatives from the Kiltormer Development Co Ltd in Co Galway and Erkina Development Association, Rathdowney, Co Laois who are currently in the process of undertaking similar projects in their areas.
