The Crusheen development association started in 1995 and it was decided
to invite people to come together to help plan the local needs and ensure
that local interests would be taken on board with planning etc. in relation
to rural development.
We held open meetings and a steering group was formed. It was agreed
to have house meetings where an outside facilitator would be appointed
to take on board the interests of the full community. From this, each
house meeting appointed a members to attend on behalf of their area
and thus the core of the committee was formed.
The committee met regularly and decided with the aid of Michael Kenny
from NUI Maynooth to examine and ensure that an accurate record of peoples
feelings and plans would be taken on board. It was decided from this
to ask the county council to take an active part as a partner and also
seek help from Leader. Both organisations agreed to work with us to
develop the community plan, which took over two years to complete, and
ensure that as much consultation as was necessary would be provided
to ensure that the wishes of the people would be observed.
The plan has been launched (click here
for press release) and is with the county council and is been incorporated
into the local area plan for Crusheen.
To date, Doon graveyard work has been developed as part of this work.
Crusheen web site is another positive and much of the local improvements
have been earmarked by this very active group.
Crusheen has grown substantially in the last number of years. The “Clondrina”
estate contains 48 houses and another development…… contains
20 houses. There is a further 50 under way in the “Inchicronan”
estate. A further 50 will be built close to the church in the future.
We have come froma situaion where there were no developments taking
place to substantial change under way.
There are many projects in our plan but this will only happen if people
take active ownership of them to ensure they are realised.
There are many needs in our new and growing community, one being a community
day care centre and creche for elderly and young alike.
Social outings and facilities must be developed to allow people the
quality of life they would like to have in our much loved rural community.
I would encourage people to let us know and present yourselves to help
develop their parish for future needs.
