Crusheen Church:-
Some time between 1726 and 1733 a church or Mass house was constructed on the site of the present Catholic church in Crusheen village. It was a cruciform barn church, typical of the time. The present church of St. Cronan, an impressive looking structure, was built around 1837. A major reconstruction was carried out in 1915 when the most distinctive feature of the building, a very elaborate reardos and a new altar were erected. The building also contains a fine set of the Stations of the Cross which were manufactured in Germany.

Ballinruan Church:-
It is thought that there was a rectangular chapel built in Ballinruan village around 1824 as that is the date mentioned in the OS Name Books, Co. Clare. Major renovation and enlargement of the building took place in 1857, recorded on a cornerstone, when a second wing was added. As a result of this enlargement, the building now consists of two aisles at right angles. The sanctuary is at the intersection. Further renovation of the church took place in 1976 when the church became known as the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

Mass times: Fridays at 10.00a.m.; Saturday Evenings (1st Mass of Sunday) at 7:30 p.m.

Eucharistic Adoration: each Thursday from 7.30p.m. to 8.30p.m.

Crusheen Catholic Parish History

The Catholic parish of Crusheen can trace its origins to monastic times. In the mid 5th century an Augustinian monastery was founded on the island of Inchicronan, probably by St. Cronan of Tuamgraney. This monastery became the parish church in the years following. Unfortunately today very little of the original monastery remains standing and access to the site, which is still used as a cemetery by some local families, is difficult.

Our modern Catholic parish of Crusheen is an amalgamation of the three old parishes of Inchicronan, Ballinruan and Kiltoola.

Today two Catholic churches serve a rapidly developing community – St. Cronan’s church situated in Crusheen village and The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Ballinruan village.

In the July 2003 diocesan appointments, Bishop Willie Walsh created the Imeall Bóirne (rim of the Burren) Team Ministry when he selected Crusheen, Tubber, Ruan and Corofin parishes to work as a unit with four priests having the overall responsibility for the area. This development reflects what was signalled in the Killaloe Diocesan Pastoral Plan.
